The formation of Byrne Architects began with the simple idea to build a family home. This became the Aireys House, a project which lead to a series of buildings realised along the Victorian and NSW coastline.
Founded by Nicholas Byrne in 2011 the practice has a clear vision for architecture responsive to both environmental conditions and the aspirations of those who inhabit the spaces we help create. Aireys House was the first building to be undertaken by Byrne Architects in which we investigated ideas of exploration, connection with the natural environment and sculptural form. The result was a beautiful and unique house which has been widely published and received critical acclaim both in Australia and abroad.
The use of timber to create rich, warm spaces has become a hallmark of Byrne Architects’ design with beach houses in Barwon Heads, Fairhaven and the coastline surrounding Merimbula. In 2014 Byrne Architects completed the highly acclaimed Balmoral House with Clinton Murray and Polly Harbison. This house received the highest architectural prize in Australia (Australian Institute of Architects National Award for Residential Architecture 2015).
We develop all our projects from first principles regardless of the building type, and are currently undertaking a range of buildings around the country. If you have a project you would like to discuss with us please feel free to reach us via the contact page.
